these builds do have a mind of there own.
Test rides have been going good.
S&S E was to rich, mostly the accelerator pump was giving to much fuel.
right now jetting .072 .031 may increase intermediate.
had a few oil leaks got them fixed.
had to swap out a hyd. lifter which wouldn't pump up.
brakes work great.
the 5 speed trans and newer starter system is an excellent upgrade.
added 1 1/2 spacer under seat, much better will be getting larger springs for sure.
have an intake leak which should take care of a slight surge at cruising slow speed
tried baffles, the cheep ones, should have known the 91 wouldn't run with them.
took them and pressed a bar down the middle to open them up and drilled a bunch of holes in them. That fixed them and didn't cost anything to try and should make the wife and neighbors a little happier. I liked the open pipes.. IT was LOUD!! but also awful obnoxious. Vrooombaa!!

Thumbs up

thanks Rick.
here is the bike just about done! installed an inch taller seat springs,
heat shields on the front pipe a new Tedds cam cover, had to order a .045 cam spacer to make it fit. Removed the hydraulic lifters for a set of solids and installed the blocked off oil port gaskets for the lifter blocks as recommended.
Now to finish up the flames and some detailing.

nice ride to the airport to check out some vintage airplanes.

I put the starter relay and circuit breakers in the tool box.
I have a couple hundred miles on the bike so far. I am learning to look out for pot holes much more carefully, they will rattle your teeth. Other than that I do really enjoy the response of the rigid frame and how much lighter it is to move and ride around.

Question like the farmer said when the Mule died..

Riding back from Prineville the front hole went away. What the $@#%%$ of course was my first reaction. Got off the road hitched a ride with a trucker, Thanks Mike, Dick hung out with the bikes, hauled the bike home.
Discovered the front intake push rod loose and it was ok on the cam end so pulled the head. Handy I was able to get the head out the right side with only loosing the tank bolts.
Took the rocker apart to discover a broken rocker arm. no other damage I can see. Guess it was just fatigue see no other explanation? maybe this was the strange noise I've been chasing?
I have some new tedds rocker arms to fix it with. I didn't use them on the build figuring the OEM ones would be best.
I'll put her back together and see how it goes!

I feel real fortunate no valve to piston contact from the rocker failure.
talking with the guy who sold me the stroker parts he said the compression should be 9.5 to 1. I should try and cc the thing but what it is, is what it is.
I told Jon I was getting some pinging and had to retard the timing which seemed to help. he said dual plug heads help when retarding timing. not real sure what the theory is about that. I am still using points but was thinking of using an Acel ECU which has some adjustments.. wanted to get it working good then maybe install the ECU.
