Default pull trans plate to install 4 speed???

I can;t seem to get my 4 speed back in the frame. Do I need to pull the transplate to install the tranny? I removed it without taking the plate off...but I recall the swing arm was removed as well. I know I never had to pull the plate when I worked on my ratchet top tranny that was in my santee hardtail frame....been fussing with it in the cold for 2 hours....still cold up here in Minnesota

The manual says pull the tranny and plate together and re-install in reverse order. With the exception of leaving the mounting bolts loose.

yeah....you are right.....went to my original HD service manual. You can pull it without the plate if the swing arm is removed though....
