Couple oddball questions i guess
So Ive had this Shovel for almost a year now. It's an 82 FXE. I inherited it while it was all stock and didnt run. Took me a couple months to get it running, it was all electrical. Since then Ive been just doing my thing to it.
1. Im thinking of really tearing it apart and doing some serious maintenance to the motor. Like seals, gaskets. Inspect things to make sure they are ok. Never done anything like this but Im excited to figure it out. One thing Im wanting to do is reduce the vibration in the motor. At around 60mph, its so bad I really cant go much faster. Today I looked and saw on the top left is a motor mount(i think) and it was missing the bolt attaching to the frame. Easy fix, but are there other mounts and if so, where are they? I dont know what Im looking for. And are there mounts I can use that will deal with the vibration better?
2. Im making a rear fender and the only way I can figure out is to frame mount it. Again Im not real experienced at this stuff so its the only way I could figure out how to do it with the tools I have. Anyways, when I sit on the bike, the fender rubs really bad. Im wanting to go with solid struts instead of shocks since I have a springer seat anyways. Will any standard struts work? Or do I have to have specific ones? I ask because I see some for a good price on the DK Customs site, but they say only for sportsters and dynas. I will attach pics of the fender and how Im mounting it.

some shop tricks are involved in getting some NOT all the vibes out - ( all you can do is eliminate some and change the spot they come in ) is does help to reduce top end reciprocating weight as in lighter parts -- and the balance factor comes into play S&S uses 60 percent harley in some circles clame 57 percent - but to change that the flywheels need to be split and scale weights done by someone who is not a novice -- you need to fine the GUY in your area -- johnjzjz

You are welcome.
FYI, you can do a top end on your bike without pulling the engine. That being said...if one of your front motor mount engine bolt was missing (you are lucky you didn't bust the case at speed) you really should pull the inner primary components and go through the correct procedure to torque the motor mounts to spec and make sure you do not need to shim the front mounts.
