Default extended forks

I have what I perceive to be extended forks on a 74 flh. I have a nacelle and the beer cans are about three inches to short to cover the entire fork tube. I have been told there is pcv tubing in the top of the fork and if I pull the plug and take it out and shorten it, the forks will be back to a proper length. I don't recall seeing anything like that in them when I assembled the bike but then again, I never looked for anything like that. Is this true and if so, is it safe? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have long fishtails on it and they are about three to four iches off the ground at the back due to the front end beinging that much higher not to mention the kick stand now is short as the bike really leans when its on it.

Just took a measurement on my 49-E77 tubes and they are 20-3/8" long. The PVC tubing is something that was done in order to avoid using longer springs when using extended forks. Pulling out the PVC will do you no good; you need to get a pair of stock length forks.

If you wish to keep the extended tubes they make extended fork covers to replace the stock ones that are too short.

I would rather have the bike sit level than the front end extended. I was hoping for a fix that didn't cost a bundle. What are a set of tubes worth and what else has to be changed to put it back to stock? Im up in Canada and im knowing this wont be cheap.

Randy, only parts needed are the tubes. But I would also get the gaskets needed since you will pulling the tubes out of the sliders. Just need to make sure you what year your front end is before ordering the tubes. Once you have it apart you can post pics of the pieces and it will be easy enough to tell if need be.
