Default fluid capacities

Just bought an 81 FXWG that's sat for several years so changing fluids but can't find fluid specs. Does anyone have this information they could share? I opened the primary and there's no fluid in there.

If your bike still has the stock oiling system, the primary oil circulates back to the tank. You will only have oil when the motor is running. If you are worried take off the oval inspection cover and start the bike. You should see oil streaming from a fitting just forward of the chain adjuster.

The oil tank holds 4 quarts. I run 60 or 70 wt but I live in FL. The transmission is filled until oil runs out of the allen screw plug in the side of the cover with the bike upright. You can run the same oil as the motor in the transmission. Some people run gear oil with good results.
