Default removing a batwing faring

how in the heck is the outer fairing removed on a '80 FLH? I can tell you this, it's nothing like a twincam faring. I've even removed the headlight so I could reach in and feel for (un-seen) mounting brackets and/or nuts. I'm changing the clutch cable, and it feeds through the faring on its way down. Anybody have a link to an exploded picture?

The book shows that it is held to the headlight housing on the sides by 5/16 x 24 bolts, top and bottom.

is this what it looks like? Got the exploded pic from Ronnies, and the inner pic off the web somewhere (don't know if mine looks like this inside or not). If so, guess it's held on by just 4 bolts? And the only way to get to them is through the headlight hole?

That is a picture of an FLT. In your post you said it was an FLH. Two different animals. It almost looks like you have to remove the instrument cluster or inner to get to it. Sorry I'm familiar with fx and flh models but not the FLT's

Gteat, thanks FilthyLucre. If I attack it from the headlight hole, I can't see squat, gotta reach in and fumble around blind. Gonna look and see if removing the instrument cluster housing might give me a different approach. T/Y again
