has the engine ran good in the past with the current setup?
do as suggested for sure adjust the valve lash.
look at the spark plugs if they are fouled clean or replace them.
look for the obvious stuff
good fuel supply good fuel
hot spark
compression
check for intake leaks, remove the air cleaner cover this way when you test for intake leaks with carb cleaner it won't get sucked in the carb and give you a false test.
maybe remove that muffler and see if that helps?
keep us posted on your fix.

Ran fine up till recently, I dicked around with carb, used s and a set up to get rid of back firing and then recently it started doing this. Like I said it'll idle fine then all of a sudden drop down and fart. I'll check and change the plugs(new last year) and get back to you. So you do t think it's the ds6-4 coil?

For now I'll change the plugs and clean the carb, bike runs okay other than idle, I ride it everyday. Last year it was a 1 or 2 kick bike then this year was 4-7 and since yesturday(changed plug wires) it's now a 1-2 kick again. Just need to sort out the idle and I'm good. Come winter time I'm doing a complete tear down so I just want to get another month out of it before winter.
Plugs, carb and tappets I'll tackle now.
