Default Timing?

So leaving the line and at low rpm's there is a flat spot in acceleration, and a miss now and then. Plugs are gaped .040, points .018
Timing is advanced as far as plate allows but seems lik I needs to advance farther, can I modify timing plate so it can advance farther? How do I clean up the low end? Thanks

What shape it the timing advance unit it ? Are the weights wobbled & loose on the shafts? show any signs of rubbing on the inside of the cone or the back of the timing plate ?

your info is light and you have no sig for the bike sooo

you should not be moving the advance plate all the way clockwise it will wreck the top end and modding the holes will get you nothing

why do you think its ignition - the bike stumbles when taking off from a stop - to me thats fuel and not enough -

what carb do you have -- have the intakes seals been done two types for shovels early and late 2 different mods for helping them seal up and not leak -- the acc pump is probly whats wrong BUT you could have a super B and just put it on but no one knows that ??????????????

fill in the blanks all of it -- solid lifters and i just did the adjustment kind of thing is needed to help - the guys are good on this site but need the real info

Jz- you're totally correct the info is light. Admittedly I know very little about this machine, I inherited it from the old man when he died so can't really ask him what he's done to it. Carb is a keihen. I'll check intake seals. It runs pretty good and don't want to mess with it too much. I guess I'm just looking for a quick fix to avoid tearing it all down and starting over. Thanks for the ideas.

I did just rebuild the carb and acc pump works well. Maybe time to take carb apart and clean it up again.

that carb has always been a thing and its acc pump works at best 1/2 way to my liking

i would look into the open air filter and turn the throttle slowly and watch the sprayer and eye to hand sinc to see when it sprays and how much -- first place to look

if the stream is not instant and steady you need to fix that than time the motor correctly and try that
