Default High Mileage???

Looking to get my first touring bike, what would yall consider to be high mileage on a used bike? I am trying to keep my price range around 16-17k something around 13-14 Street Glide or Road Glide.

Found a few around that price but have 20K miles? Would this deter you away?

Depends on the condition. Also depends on the modifications that have been made. I've seen low mileage bikes that had been ruined by how they were run, maintained, and/or the trash & garbage that had been added. I've seen high mileage bikes that were well maintained and in pristine condition, both mechanically and visually.

Welcome

What he said, I would rather have a well maintained bike with 50k on it instead of a beat on bike with 10k, and something that has not been hot rodded, the more power it makes will reduce the engine life.

That would not deter me. A touring bike with really low miles can be had but 20k on a 2-3 year old bike is not high miles IMO. Ask for service records. If they don't have any and can't tell you what's been done miles don't matter, i'd move on.

For that price and year you should be able to find bikes even under 10k miles

your in the driver seat with that amount of cash. If you have a good intuition yes mileage not so important. But i also see the value of a nicely modified bike...let them pay for a stage IV and some kewl rims

Erin, shoot me a PM. Just so happens a buddy of mine told me today he is selling his wife's 2013 SG. 14 HUNDRED miles, 1400,, He had 12" mini apes, & passing lamps installed soon after he bought it. Other than that it is like it came off the showroom floor. It is immaculate & in your price range. Ember glow red I believe is what the color is called.

Not worried about miles if it's taken care of. However, if you're willing to spend that kind of coin, there's plenty out there with less.

I know where there is a 2014 SG Special with about 7,000 miles for 17,800. It is as perfect as any you will find. Has a sissy bar, Windsplitter windshield, Stage 1, AC, tuner, and Vance and Hines mufflers. White gold color. NADA list it with the options for about 20,000.

You would have to make a road trip to pick it up, but it might be worth it. Its in NM. Belongs to my physical therapist, and he is just asking what he owes.

I can set you up with a place to stay while you close the deal, pick you up at the airport, etc. if you wanted to fly and ride.

Bill

20K is really nothing to worry about with a Harley.... IF... it's been maintained and run correctly...

I've recently developed an aversion to used bikes from reading HD forums. There are soo many people these days that are clueless about tuning and maintenance. Then there are many who know what these bikes need to stay in great working order. Used bikes can be a real crap shoot.....

You could get an abused bike at 10K or a well maintained bike with many miles left to go @ 60K......

If I didn't know the owner of a used bike, I would get one with as few miles as possible... just to minimize any ignorance caused abuse...

As mentioned, for the money you are spending, I would hold out for less miles... If you can get an owner like me, who's a compulsive record keeper, all the better...

Good luck with the hunt, there are many good bikes are out there...!
