Got a call last night from the Service Mgr that they are calling in the HD rep to look at my Bike (2017 Street Glide) today. The Motor is leaking oil in 2 or 3 locations that there is no explanations for. He said that they will know more today, but seeing what he has and availability of parts it could be a long stay at the dealership. I am going there after work to see first hand. Needless to say I was not very happy...The bike is 2 weeks old and 390 miles...Man I am bummed out.

 

that sucks, they just issued another recall for my 16 RGS, something to do with the clutch again. Good luck

 

Wow that doesn't sound good. It is somewhat alarming to hear about problems with the new engine,,especially oil leaks.

From what I heard from my dealer, they have found it is simply a matter of the oil FILTER being tightened properly, not the motor leaking. Could possibly explain why it seems to be coming from several places. Gravity comes into play and the drips are spaced out. Could be that simple for you. Mine goes into the dealer for the 1000 mile check today with 1170 miles, I've had nothing but pure enjoyment from it.

 

Maybe their reverting back to the early years when they marked their territory wherever you parked them.

 

Hope it's something simple. That would take the fun out of a big purchase. Keep us updated.

 

I have to wonder if that is BS.

Oil filtrs on lots of machines, not rocket science.

An oil leak should not be a mystery for a dealer.

 

Zerk your posts are always a ray of sunshine....... We shall wait and see and I have no idea if what my dealer claims in true or not. I can say they have been very truthful in the past and frankly, if it is the filter area I can see why they might have an issue tracking it. Anyone that has tried to pinpoint an oil leak on any motor finds out just how weird oil can run to other places and make it difficult to pinpoint the starting point. Time will tell.

 

THAT'S IT! I thought that engine looked familiar. They found a bunch of old stock shovelhead motors in a warehouse and put a bigger cam in, with a redesigned rocker cover. They should come with a drip pan in the bags.

 

If it was as simple as an oil filter over tightened, I would hope that the Dealership tech could diagnose that without calling the HD area rep to come look at it.
