Default Bike Security While Staying in a Motel

I've done overnight trips where I stay at a friends. Never overnight trips where I have to stay in a motel. I'm planning a trip from CA to FL and will likely need 2, maybe 3, nights in a motel. My concern is with bike security.

I was thinking I could find motel rooms on the ground floor where I could bring my bike into the room; or
Give the front desk attendant $10 or $20 to park the bike in front of the entrance where they could watch it during the night.

I don't have room to bring a "Honda" bike cover so that's out of the question.

Any tips or horror stories?

Besides locking your steering....I bought a XENA disk brake lock for extra security.

I give the valet $5 to park it near the main entrance.

My assumption is that most third shift hotel clerks...... may be prone to naps!
Put a cover on it and relax!

For added security if parked outside room on first floor, I carry a cheapo $19 tracfone with a $19 prepaid card on it in addition to my regular cellphone. I have a free security camera app installed on both, I use Alfred but there are several available. I set the prepaid in the window looking out at my bike with the motion sensor turned on. If someone walks by or near my bike I get a notification on my phone and I can check the camera on my phone and see whats up whether I'm in my room, by the pool, or sitting in the restaurant/bar. I can see it in live real time, have one setup in my garage at home I leave on full time as well so I can always see my bikes and toolboxes wherever I go.

If the motel has wifi the second phone doesn't even need to be activated or have airtime although mine does in case of loss of wifi.

Never driven a motorcycle to a hotel to date, but if I did, I would make sure I got a room that would allow me to keep an eye on it.

I have had my 03 Buell in more than a few hotel rooms. Once on the third floor! 😈

With the touring bikes, I take anything of value with me. Lock it up. Many times the night manager at the hotel will tell me to park it under the awning close to the front doors. I always try to get a ground floor, and hope there's a parking space open right in front of it. I take my detachable tour pak in the room with me.
