Default I'm Looking to Purchase My First Harley

Seems to be a great time of the year to find a deal.

So I'm looking to buy my first Harley. I never saw any models that caught my interest before and I haven't taken one on a ride yet.

Then I noticed the VRod. After sitting on one and feeling it idle, I'm not a real fan. The bike doesn't do anything perfectly except accelerate.

Then there's the Low Rider, Low Rider S (Pricey Burt Reynolds edition), and Fat Bob in the Dyna family. I'm leaning to the Fat Bob. With a pair of 14" Ochlin shocks, it seems to better the handling, steering, and overall look of the bike.

The only bike in the Sportster line that I like is the Roadster. Am I correct in assuming it won't hold it's value as compared to other models?
On the plus side I love the ground clearance, but I'll need to raise the handlebars a bit.

I like the Breakout Softtail, but by the time I get it optioned, the price is too high.

Then there's the CVO Pro Street Breakout  Too costly.

Then there's a lightly used XR1200X that I've been eyeing.

I'm 6'2",250lbs with a 35"inseam. I want a taller bike. 28"-30" seat heights are a bit too low. I don't want a cruiser. I'd like to have ABS and Cruise, but it's not mandatory.

What kind of goodies should I hit the dealer for during a new purchase?

I may consider used.
I guess I need to start by taking test rides

There is not one bike in the Harley lineup that has a seat that high. And, they're all cruisers of one sort or another.

Looks like you're out of luck....

Roadster is 30.9". Fat Bob will be better after the *** is raised.

You could tell how a V Rod handles by feeling it idle? I don't get it.

Is there a question here?

You are correct in your conclusion that test rides will help you figure it out.

I'm the same height as you. Seat height does not bother me- - I spend most of my time on the bike with my feet not on the ground.

That being said, I installed kuryakyn mark IV extended bars on my fatboy floor boards to give me that extra space to stretch out.

Almost every bike you see in a Harley dealership can be modified to fit your size. Start by choosing one or two models that you really like, and find a knowledgable employee to discuss possibilities. Reputable dealerships want you to be happy with your ride, and should be happy to spend time finding you a good fit. Best of luck!

Take some test rides, and remember that Harleys are very versatile platforms - you can set them up to fit just about anyone. That said, it honestly sounds like you may be better off getting a BMW adventure bike, like big papa said, and slapping a bar and shield on the tank.
