Default Is My 103 Enough?

So, I'm 12 days out from heading down to Daytona from Columbus, OH. It's not the first time I've done this trip, and lots of other long trips on my '14 Road King. However, with the new M8 engine, I'm wondering if my engine will be enough to get me down there and back safely.

I've read that the new engine is amazing, and that its the best engine Harley has made in a long time. My concern is that I'm gonna regret not having more power and less vibration. Also, is the heat gonna be too much for me to handle?

Any advice would be great, guys - help me calm my nerves!

How did we manage to ride when shovels were only 73 cubic inches?

That's what it is built for. Keep the bike you know will go the distance. Sunscreen and lots of fluids will help with the heat. If you like a few alcoholic beverages wait till sundown when the bike should be parked. Have a great time.

Whoa, that reminds me to put in for some vacation days for Biketoberfest.
I'm just hoping my old, carbed, 88 twinkie will make it the 10 miles to the events.

I'm pretty sure it would have a problem, as stated you've made the trip before, so the one trip limit is done. I know a guy at our local dealer that would make you a deal on the M8 and even ship it to you. Don't worry about the money thing or fine print - your Peace of Mind is what counts. You could ship yours to me and then have peace of mind knowing I'll take on the burden and worry of the 103, because I never made the trip on it, so I'd be OK.

It's not enough, you need a frame mounted fairing!

I've got the feeling you're f'n with us. Or are you looking for justification to buy a new bike?

Your bike will be fine.

Is it enough????

I think you should probably ride your really really old and small bike up to the snobby bike night at Quaker Steak and Lube just outside columbus and ask the stuck up rich bikers what they think. They'll probably tell you what to do...

Or you could ride to Hilltop and ask that one guy... but he'll probably tell you the bike is okay but you need to use $100 bills to wipe yourself.

Then again you could just ride the bike down to Florida and be happy. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't get behind a truck that throws up a rock and breaks your headlight.

:-)
