Cool Faulty oil pressure sender?

I have a 2014 FLHTK where you get a numerical readout of oil pressure when you hit the "I" switch on the right handlebar, not just an "OK" idiot light like you get on the new 107s.
Was looking at it recently and got a bit of a shock when it dipped down to 0 when idling.
At idle the readout seems to "bounce" between 0.2, then 0.4, then 0.8, then as high as 1.1 and back down again so I am surmising that the oil pressure sender unit might be faulty rather than the oil pump itself?
What do others think?
Has anyone out there had similar "jumping" readouts which were rectified (stabilised) by changing out the oil pressure sender unit?
I have asked the dealer to change it out next week and they have one on order. Of course they will do a oil pressure check as well just to be on the safeside.

we use PSI- is your display in bar?

1 bar is 14.5 psi

twin cams are limited to about 32 PSI ( 2.2) with a bleed off valve- higher numbers may be seen at the sender with an obstruction such as crap filter or kinked cooler line.

oil pressure will be fairly constant depending on where it is measured, the closer to the pump then then more of a surge will be seen corresponding to the cycling of teh pump...as you get farther away these surges or pulses smooth out.

temperature/ viscosity will also play a part.

post back with your results

Mike

It should be around 14 pounds at idle.

It could be your sender for sure. If you really only had .2 pounds you would really, really know it. The sound would be unmistakable.
It would sound like your lifters/rockers are about to come out the top of the engine.
