Default Umm, what if the battery in your FOB dies?

Noticed today my bike wouldn't start right away, took FOB out of my pocket and it started so thinking my FOB battery is dying. Got me thinking, what if a person was on the road and battery quit? Is there a way to still get the bike started?

In your manual there is a way to program the security to manually disable the security system to start the bike. Need to come up with your own number as the factory usually uses 12345. I always carry a spare battery.

Yeah was thinking I need to get spare battery for sure, my bike didn't come with a manual but I bought the service download, will have to look up the code info. If it's a five digit number where would you key that in?

Use this to enter the pin and start the bike (last section).

Then ride to a drug store and buy a new battery. No sweat at all.

Set it 1 1 1 1 1. It takes the key and practice even then to get thru it.

Well you should have the code, and it will prompt you to enter the code if no fob. The batteries are very common. Mine started giving me issues lately, so I just replaced the battery as soon as it started. Too easy...

You can buy an owners manual from your dealer, or download one from the H-D website, go to the Owners tab. Part of servicing your bike is replacing that battery at sensible intervals, so you don't have to worry! You should also have two fobs.

Watch for it, your fob will usually show "Signs" that the battery is about to croak.
I replace my fob battery every 2 years at the anniversary of when I bought my bike.
I buy a sleeve of them off Amazon, keep an extra one with your bike, the rest hang in the garage.
Get familiar with the manual override. Don't be an idiot, program the code to something special to you that you will remember. Remember what it is intended to do. Sometimes when I move my bike around or take a short run on it, I use the code in place of the fob. Become as familiar with the procedure as you should be with regard to putting the kick stand down when you park your bike.

Agree on getting an owner's manual, as it tells how to use the security code to start the bike, as well as how to change it. Your FOB has to be working to change the code, though. Change out the battery regularly and know which is the + side.

I change my FOB batteries when I change the smoke alarm.
