Default Air Ride Question

Hey Everyone

New to the forum and BRAND new to the Harley world. In the next month i will be picking up my 2004 Harley Sportster XL1200C. I'm interested in equipping it with rear air ride shocks (the kit from skully customs is the one I'm favoring). Any pros or cons before I spend the $600 on the kit?

My only concern that I see can be a problem with installing the kit is where to mount the compressor. Does anyone have any experience with this specific kit or one like it?

I was informed that most people buy a leather tool bag and mount it to the frame/engine area to hide the compressor, not a huge fan of bags like that. Anyone have any other ideas?

I believe Legends Air Suspension mounts the compressor under
the swingarm pivot. Seems hidden there, however Legends
appears to be about $1000 more than what you've listed.

Appears that Skully uses air shocks from a corvette (not sure, maybe not)
like some of the DIY kits. Might also look into Dirty Air

good luck,

T.

Thanks for the info. Yeah that's a bit more than I was hoping to spend but I'' going to see if I can find or fabricate something to find a way to mount it near the swing arm.

It is very common to get takeoff air shocks from a Harley bagger, I got mine from Craigslist with the hand pump for $100 in Long Beach 4 years ago. No downside, no leaks over 30k miles. I swapped them in the hotel parking lot. I live in Wisconsin. I ride solo at 0-5 lbs and 2 up at 10-20. You can get them in black or chrome. I got black since it's faster There are lots of internet resources on swapping them in and re-oiling if you need too.

I have air shocks taken off a Road King, straight bolt on and a lot less than you are looking to pay

I may be interested in these also. Could you provide some of the internet sources you mentioned? Thanks.

What feature is it you are hoping for with that shocks kit? Shocks of all sorts get stacks of coverage all across HDF, with members having different reasons for changing.

No matter what you read, you can not change the shocks one side at a time easily if the new shocks are a different length than the old. In my case I was going from 13.3 inch stock to 13 inch air shocks. I lifted the back wheel off the bike, and then lift the back wheel and controlled it with nylon web strap over the frame/fender.
