Default Trimming the Tank Breather tube on Iron 883?

I have been trying to fit a flush mount Gas cap on my 2013 Iron 883, but it doesn't seem to go down all the way. I have found other threads online and on this forum with the same issue, and some have mentioned that they have trimmed the vent tube that sticks out of the tank. Is it safe to do this?

I am planning to do it by drill bit + Tbar than with a power tool. If I cover/mask the tank spout, should I worry about the tiny bits that end up going into the vent tube itself? I am assuming the tube goes directly out to an exit tube than to be mixed with anything inside the tank. Is that right?

Any insights would be helpful.

Attached are some pics with an Arlen Ness flush mount tank cap.

I found that I have been able to use flush mount caps by simply pinching the tube a little bit.

I am sure that shortening would work also, but not found it necessary, and I would be concerning about bits going into the tube also.

I tried bending the tube a little but it didnt budge much. What did you use to pinch?

I've used clamp pliers and channel locks, both worked for me.

Are there any known flush mount caps that fit without modification?

Default cap

Not had any leeks. I do have some wear around the center piece, but that's been it. had for about a year and a half (around 12k miles).

for the price and looks, I'm happy with it.
