Do Battery Tenders get weak from use?
I have a 2008 Harley Fatboy purchased used in June 2013. Bike now has 20,000 miles. Battery in bike is a DEKA. Bike is always on tender when not used. I have noticed recently that when I get it off Harley Battery Tender and try to start it, it cranks slowly but does crank. After riding a bit, stopping, and restarting, it starts just fine.
Should the bike start strong after being on the battery tender just like it does after riding a while? Not sure if the tender is wearing out.

Q.) Do Battery Tenders get weak from use?
A.) No.
That doesn't mean that the Battery Tender is working (or not) or that the Battery is Good or Bad. More information is needed:
Use a Digital Voltmeter to take the readings. The free one's from Harbor Freight will work just fine for this. Answer these three questions (PM please) and the solution can be accurately determined. There are other ways to determine this, but for a DIYer this is probably the easiest and most accurate way.
On the other hand; if you replace BOTH the Battery and the Battery Tender and also clean the Battery Cable Connections . . . . your problem will be solved. This would be known as the "Shotgun Solution." Not very elegant, but it will be effective!

- What is the Voltage of the Battery, with the Battery Tender connected; at least 12 hours after the Bike was shut off and the Battery Tender was connected shortly after shutting the Bike off.?
- What is the Voltage of the Battery, WITHOUT the Battery Tender connected at least 12 hours after the Bike is shut off?
- What is the Voltage of the Battery immediately after the Bike has been shut off, after the Bike has been running for an hour or so?
