We, the wife and I, had only ever taken longer trips with others up until two years ago. Then just her and I took a trip around Lake Michigan and up to Superior. That was the not the first time we had ridden alone but it was certainly the furthest we had gone by ourselves. It was different. It was also the best trip we had ever taken up to that point or since. Did/went/ate/stopped where and when we wanted...no need to get a group consensus. I highly recommend giving it a try...it's one trip. If you end up not liking it then what are you out? An extra bike trip? The inhumanity, lol. Maybe you'll just find a bunch of new roads and cool spots to take your buddies to next time.

The ride is the ride for me..
Solo, 2 up w the wife, with or without good friends. Never been one for organized rides There are a select few I want to ride that close to. Back in the day, some a few feet to the side and a few feet front to back.

I ride with groups at weekends, either HOG or other friends. But for long trips I prefer solo. Thinking S Fl to Natchez MS next summer and up the Trace towards Nashville.
I've learned to be VERY picky about who I travel with on long journeys. I like to get up early and leave the hotel, not wait for a group to pack and breakfast etc, and putz around. Then I don't like to stop for long breaks and will happily do 500 plus miles. Not many like to ride like that.
