Default 03 bagger clutch slipping

I just bought a new clutch , new friction discs and metal plates . It came with an extra friction disc . Should this be installed ? I only used what came out , it shifts fine ,but when I get on it it slips. The adjustment seems fine what did I do wrong ?? All Harley parts

Welcome to the forum. I guess nobody does a proper introduction any more. Whatever.

My guess: Adjustment, even though it "seems fine"

When you bought the new plates did you also buy new springs? 14 years is a long time on springs.

I would revisit the adjustment and do it exactly like the Service Manual says. If it still slips you might want to look at the springs. I'm betting improper adjustment is your problem tho.

Another thought. Before you installed the friction plates did you soak them in oil first? That is a must for proper operation.

I bet that "extra friction plate" is supposed to be installed. Is there a metal plate to go between it and another friction disc? If so, install it and see how it works. If the clutch pack is too short the belleville spring won't have enough tension on the clutch plates.

Here is a good write-up on a new clutch. It is also for a different chain tensioner but you can bypass that if ya don't need it.
I wouldn't leave out any of the disks. The thickness is figured on all of them being there. If you didn't want an extra plate clutch,,,, why spend the extra money in the first place ? If you need extra room leave out the cupped spring in the inside. As shown in this sticky.
Re-count all the stuff you took out. You could easily take out the inner ring & cupped spring & miss putting something back in. Just a thought.
If you follow it you should have no problems.

If you bought a +1 clutch, you need to install all the plates. Some plates are made thinner so that the total friction / steel stack-up height is the same as the stock plate count clutch.
