Default Adding security problem

I bought a 2016 Road Glide without security, now I am trying to add it. I bought the correct model (P/N41000087C) and took it to the dealer to install.

Harley dealer tells me that when it is installed and hooked up to their computer, it asks for a PIN number and that it should not. They attempted 31313, 11111, 12345 etc without success. They couldn't figure out what to do so they took it off and put the old TSM or TSS or whatever it is back on. The dealer said that when it asks for a PIN that it might be a used system, but I got it from Boardtracker so I don't think that is the case.

Anyone have any suggestions before I try to exchange it?

Did they put batteries in the fobs? The fobs have to be registered in the new system before it'll let you make a new PIN. The fob ID numbers are inside the fob.

It sounds like your dealer does not know what is going on. I install mine in a 2016 heritage and tried to do everything I could do to get it to marry to the ECM. I did get to the pin input screen. That is the farthest point I could get to without dealer equipment. They have to put it on there computer. And they have to register the fobs and marry it to the ECM. I would recommend Go to another dealer.

Thanks for the replies! I will call tomorrow and ask exactly what they did. Worst case, I can drive to Big Spring and check out the oldest Harley dealer in Texas!

The standard models didn't come with security, it's an option that you can add though.

The "Special" model comes with it already installed, along with ABS, larger infotainment screen with GPS and touchscreen, color matched fairing skirt, gloss painted inner fairing, pinstripes (all excluded on the standard model).

So it turns out Board Tracker sent me the wrong part. I drove 2 hours to another dealer to get it installed and they told me the part number on the box is correct but the item inside is for a CVO model.

My choices are pay $75 and return it and come back to pay another $75 for installation or buy the correct part for MSRP and return the wrong one.

Thanks a lot boardtrackerharley.com

Did you talk to the folks at Boardtracker and let them know that THEY sent the wrong part number?

You bet I did! They are going to refund the original price and shipping. Apparently it was packaged wrong by Harley, not Boardtracker. So I guess no harm done, except from the dealer who took advantage of the situation. Oh well, live and learn.
