Default Clicking Noise In My New Road King Milwaukee 8

A few weeks ago I bought a new 2017 Road King. I have around 400 miles on it and wanted to know if it was normal to hear a fast clicking sound in the engine as I am riding it. Also I can hear the whine in the transmission too. Harley said it was because it is still in the break-in period but once I get the oil changed the noises will go away. Is this correct or do i have a problem?

I noticed some top-end engine ticking when mine was new as well. I have about 750 miles on now and it has quieted down a lot. Not sure about the whine. I don't remember having that one.

If your ears are good enough and you listen hard enough you can hear the transmission whine on almost any Harley touring bike. Is what is. Also valve train noise (the ticking you are hearing) is very common. I wouldn't worry about either.

I bought my '17 SG two and a half weeks ago with 800 miles on it, and the 1000 mile service had just been performed. I now have 1800 miles on it. The ticking and the whine have become more noticeable. Consensus - the excitement is wearing off and I'm noticing more things. The higher the revs, the more prominent the ticking. The harder the accel/decel, the louder the whine. As a mechanical engineer that sounds pretty normal to me.

ONE thing that feels out of place to me is the grinding/vibrating feeling through the whole bike in 6th gear. Anyone else?

I have about the same miles on my SGS. Same trans and valvetrain noise but no grinding or vibration in 6th. Mine is smooth cruising in top gear. You might want to let the dealer have a look at it

Engines in general are a giant noise, some normal and some not. I'm not one of the lucky ones that can tell if a noise is normal or not without hearing it.

I've noticed the same thing. Have also heard around 3 or 4 other people speak of it too. It's not a total buzzkill but noticeable.

When I first got my 17 UL I heard a high pitched whine and it took me a bit to figure it out. I figured it out on a warm day at a stop light. It was the cooling fans turning on. I also have the ticking noise.

I'm amazed at how much less overall engine/drivetrain, etc. noises there are in my 2017 RK over my 2015 RK...nothing bothers me anymore compared to what I have been used to
