Default What in the world is this?

92 fxstc. So I've looked through two different service manuals and can't locate what in the world this is. Plastic (?) black canister, right in the front of the rear wheel. Is this stock or aftermarket? Seems to have connections on the left hand side maybe?

Looks like a charcoal emissions canister.

No idea, I'm the third owner at least. Anyway to figure that out from vin or serial number? I'm assuming I'm safe to remove it if that's the case?

Just a wild guess, is it a California model?
Maybe the CALIFORNIA EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS KIT

Wait, I also have a mystery hose inlet to the carb that sits right behind the butterfly in front of the intake that wasn't connected to anything. Was all of that connected at some point? If so, should I cap off that inlet into the carb?

Well I say inlet, could easily be an exit.

Ah-ha! I think you gents are onto something. Here's a pic of a CA CV carb showing that mystery hose inlet/exit on the back I was talking about.

So I'm thinking I'm good leaving the extra outlet from the reserve tank as is, maybe running it under the bike if I'm feeling spicy. Otherwise cap the inlet on the throttle body side and ripping out the canister. I already cut the hoses that were cut off at the negative post under the seat so the canister is just hanging out right now. Thoughts?

Yup, if you don't need it in Georgia, take it outta there. That tube on the back of the TB is a vacuum port, not sure what for, but cap it.
