Default Pushrod Adjustment

Ok guys, I am trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with adjusting pushrods and need some advice. I'm working on a 2007 Heritage with SE 255 Cams. I found TDC on the rear and went to zero lash and gave it two and a half turns like the instructions said (Screamin Eagle Quick Installs) let them bleed down until i could spin them and i repeated the steps for the front. When i turn the bike on there is a clicking noise like they aren't adjusted right. Any insight on this would be helpful.

assuming they are 24tpi, go one more turn for a total of 3 1/2 turns from 0 lash

I can try that tonight but why would the instructions say 2.5? Also i took a set of stock perfect fits that came out of a different bike and measured it and marked it so it would be close. shouldnt stock pushrods work on 255?

SE made different tpi pushrods, most commonly 24. Count to confirm, they have pitch gauges to do that. If 24 tpi preload the lifters 3 1/2 turns from zero lash. If 32 tpi set preload to 4 1/2 turns.
I know the moco says 2 1/2 turns but that's for a stock cam. When you go to a higher lift and a more aggressive ramp cam, they will be a lot noisier making it necessary to load the lifters a little more to quiet things down...

I have pitch gauge at home i will take back to 0 lash and put them to 3.5 turns tonight if its 24, which i think it is. I tried doing this on a set of woods 777 cams last week and they never wanted to bleed down

SE Quick Install pushrods are 24TPI; 3.5 turns will set preload at about .145". Piston should be at TDC on the compression stroke. The lifters will rattle for a minute or so but should go quiet pretty quick. Ride the bike, get everything up to operating temps and if valve train is noisy, look elsewhere.

Just to be clear, they need to be set at .145"? it was my understanding that they need to be approximately .100"

We have loaded a .200" travel lifter to .140-.150" here for almost a dozen years now.
