A softail bike is designed to be old school, hence the softail look. Go with a conventional bar, the mustache bar is way too modern lookin IMHO. Never saw an old Pan with a mustache bar ever.
i agree the conventional the mustache style may limit you with future changes
Hi, guys! I'm looking for an engine guard for my 2014 Fatboy. HD catalog shows a conventional square type and a mustache type, and I'm wondering which I should get. The mustache type has a sort of cool design, but, the square type may have a better protection in case of a drop. Any input from you appreciated.
I use a mustache guard on my Slim.
I like the lower profile look.
As far as protection, I don't think one offers more protection over the other.
If it's a "soft" drop, where the bike just falls over chances are it'll just land on the guard and stop, but if it's a total rollover I don't think it will matter much which guard you use.
I found that with the mustache guard I found that the "notch" at the top makes a nice place to hang a tool bag...
I have a mustache bar on my 06 Heritage Flsti, l think it looks nice.l went down in some gravel last fall at low speed, it definitely saved my paint and my leg.
I went with the Linby Bars. I like the way they look and the Position that they let me ride at. I adjusted my shift lever so that I can shift with my heel from the bar as well.
Got a nostalgic one on my Heritage, but wouldn't mind getting a mustache for the foot/leg rest.
I don't get much use out of the foot rests on my mustache guard, as they seem to be too far inward and a little too high.
Not comfortable at all - but that's just me.
OTOH I suppose it's better than nothing...
