US 12 is my back yard. It is, without question, one of the most beautiful rides in the US, two wheels or four. I've done it in a car in winter. It's just...breathtaking.
Worth a trip. Really.
However, you need to be careful. There are deaths on that road every year. Not because of the road, it's very nice to ride, but because of people. There are a lot of locals that use it for daily commutes. Familiarity causes higher than safe speeds and lack of patience if traffic is slow. There are trucks on the road. This is logging country. People are known to occasionally drink too much and then get on the road. It's all undivided two lane. Head on collisions are not rare.
it's a beautiful ride, and one to look forward to. But you do need to keep your wits about you, as you should on every ride.
