23's Installed... Finally
Took a little longer than I expected to get this project done. It's 2005 FXSTI which I picked up last year for cheap, bone stock with only 1800 miles. Here it is now:
I had the wheels custom cut by Primo Forged. It's a design based off their Revel model. Ordered the wheels late June and took a little over 2 months but well worth it. They're 23x18 chrome with translucent candy gold powder spokes. Got the Metzeler ME888 up front and the ME880 in the rear.
Got the 200mm kit from Heartland, which I got to tour their facility back in July. Jake is the man, and they have awesome cash in hand prices if you're in the area.
Being 150mm stock, it was a PITA to get everything to fit together. I went with a matching 20mm pulley and rotors from Primo Forged and got the 20mm belt as well. I used 2006 hubs for the wheels. I was able to use the stock swingarm from my 2005. No need to grind anything down but I did have to disassemble the rotors and calipers to get everything to fit. I also had to have spaces made for both sides.
I have Shotgun shocks and -2" fork tubes plus 2" lowering springs in the front. Yesterday was my first ride with the new wheels and it rides surprisingly good. The front feels way more stable in turns. No more tracking when I run over cracks or raised pavement. It's just a little slower to turn and straighten coming out of a turn but nothing I wont get used to. It's been a big transformation since I got this last spring but I'm please with all the changes so far.
