Love them loud pipes! Every bike I have had has had loud pipes. My Fat Boy Lo is brand new and I am still running the stock pipes. I have been cut off more then I ever have. The stock pipes are so quiet.
My 1997 FXSTC has V&H Big Shots. Pretty loud and felt a little bad for the neighbors, Had quiet baffles installed. Still loud, but I think it's perfect!
I have 1 & 3/4" drag pipes with a small 1/2" square homemade baffle in the end for back pressure on my 99 EVO. Sounds great and runs consistant all the way from idle to wide open. I upshift early in town and around the hood.
Mine aren't loud unless I'm going through the gears and giving it a lot of gas. Otherwise, they're just like most any Harley because I've have every kind of cop all around me and I've never been stopped.

I ran drag pipes in my first Harley, a 78 low rider, cause it was cool and loud. Then I ran stock on a 86 Tour Glide for 27 years and always got harassed for riding a purring *****. Bought a 12 Limited and was encouraged to put pipes on so I added Rush Big Louies with 3" baffles and it's a beautiful sound all around. Just picked the wife up a used FB with V&H Big Radius. The V&H are almost irritating in an idle but once it's on the road it's surprisingly nice and very tolerable loud sound!
I run the Freedom Performance Amendments...they are plenty loud and I dig em. Between the pipes and the daymaker headlamp, people know there's a motorcycle nearby hehe
