If you have removed the six bolts then they should pop right off. You may have to pry a little harder.

Always use a dead blow hammer (non-metal) in place of a screwdriver. They come in different sizes but start with light taps and work your way up.

DON'T PRY!!!! A rubber mallet (or a small dead blow) should be all that is needed to free it up.

I did this last winter to have the covers powder coated. If you're gonna pry make sure you use plastic interior tools (the ones you use to work on the I teriors of cars). Or just use a rubber mallet and tap on the sides of the top cover. There is a gasket between the top and bottom covers. With all the heat the motor makes that gasket gets cooked in between there and keeps the halves stuck.

When you take the top half off look inside and you'll see a few screws in there which are holding the bottom half to the jug. Take those off and the bottom half comes off. Look in there there's a openings and covers for oil to make its way up to the top of the jug. Those have a gasket and a filter type looking thing in there. HD sells a replacement kit with all those parts for cheap. It's worth replacing, I did.

Make sure you get yourself a manual bro. Gonna save you a lot of headaches down the road.
