softail deluxe windshield nostalgic 18 inch and helmet
I was looking on a review posted in harley davidson site about the nostalgic windshield 18 inch for a softail deluxe and wearing a helmet at the same time. On the post it mentioned about riders feeling uncomfortable riding with the windshield and the helmet .
I am thinking of buying the windshield. Any words on that ?

I had the 21" Nostalgic shield on my Deluxe and it gave excellent wind protection. I experienced no helmet buffeting with the 21" shield but I looked through it because of the height.
Depending on how tall you are and how much of your head is exposed above the shield will affect the amount of head buffeting you will get. I am 5' 9" and probably would have been good with the 18" but opted for the 21" for maximum wind protection.

MrsSuper38 has the 21" on her Deluxe. She was busy the other day so I racked some miles up on it (again).
I completely don't get the comments about the handling of the bike with the windshield, I've had it well over the limit on the interstate and it handles fine.
However, I did notice that her windshield bag was loose and I went ahead and removed it mid ride because I didn't want it to scratch the WS or anything. I noticed a marked difference in buffeting without the bag in place.
My theory is that the bag breaks up the air coming between the headlight and WS.
My advice is, put a WS bag on with the shield.

Now that I have the 18" shield installed, the ride is great. Way less air than without a shield. I did put a bag on it however and that may be why it is fine for me. I kinda feel a little buffeting at different speeds, but nothing real bad. Like I said, way better than without. Verdict is still out until i try my main summer helmet and put the wifey on the back and see where we stand. More winter riding is in store for us.
