Default Question about my new tree huggers on my slim.

I went with a set of 16" tree huggers for my slim. The 1.5 bar looks awesome! My question is about the cover on the stem bolt. The factory one is too tall and the bars hit it. What are you guys that have installed the 1.5 tree huggers doing to alleviate this? Thanks for the help.

Well Hell! That's not good. Hopefully someone can remedy this.

I don't really know what you are talking about but if a bolt is too long I usually go to ace or any other hardware store and buy a bolt the correct length.

The bolts are fine, the chrome cover over the stem bolt that covers it is too tall and it his the bars. I need a shorter one or a smaller diameter one or something.

I run 16" tree huggers on my Slim, no clearance issue. Did you get the miter cut or traditional? Also, did you replace the riser bushings with urethane bushings? I used drag specialties urethane bushings ( only $9.95 at dennis kirk) and noticed they were taller than the stock bushings...slightly more bar clearance. Also rock solid, my bars dont budge a bit

I went with traditional to try and maintain that old school look of the slim that I like so much. I did change to the poly bushings but the ones I installed were no taller than the factory rubber ones I took out. I picked the bushings up at my local shop and they are Arlen Ness. I could probably double stack the top washers and get enough clearance but hate to do so if someone has encountered this and knows a better way.
I'm glad you chimed in FLS103, what length over stock cables did you end up going with? Your bike was my inspiration for going with these bars! It looks awesome!

Thanks. I mounted the bars and used some old monster speaker wire to mock up where I wanted to run the cables/ lines....ended up with Barnett +10 throttle/idle, +8 clutch, the abs upper is 42" Goodrich universal. Namz 12" wire extension. No bidinding lock to lock.
Man that sucks about your clearance issues. Going to measure and see how much clearance mine has when I get home.

are the risers too short now that you added the larger diameter bars ? if spacing out the risers is out....you can swap out the risers for slightly taller ones ...( 1/2 " or so )

I was thinking 8" over on all cables. Professor, another half inch would be plenty but does la choppers make different height risers for these bars? Remember, these are the tree huggers, not the traditional riser and clamp setup.

Two pics...as you can see my +10" idle/ throttle are ran tight, just enough slack coming out from under tank to allow lock to left. If you go +8" the throttle may bind. +8" on clutch left plenty of slack for loch to right with no bind. I didnt notice in your original post that you had covers...mine does not have aftermarket covers, plenty of clearance.
