Default Softail "cats"

If the cat is in the muffler of softail exhaust is there a benefit of changing full exhaust over just the mufflers?

The cat is in the mufflers on a Softail. Head pipe on the Touring models. You change the entire exhaust on a Softail if you want a different look or style.

The benefits of changing head pipes are in my opinion betters looks and the ability to install larger saddlebags.

If you want to retain stock look without cats check out American Custom exhaust. They're a vendor/sponsor on this site. I love mine!

Ditto on American custom exhaust. Good work and good to deal with. They did mine and my brothers. They have multiple baffles to choose from and can be changed in minutes. Check their web site.

I went cheap - cycleshack slash-cut slip ons:

I also eventually got rid of the football air cleaner and re-tuned with a dynojet powervision:

I like the looks of factory exhaust so American custom looks like a good choice. Then maybe new air and I will be done. I hope.
