I can't comment on the drop ins. But I can tell you that the progressive mono tubes were a world of difference to me and worth it. They are more money. I know you specifically asked about the drop ins, but I thought I would put another option in the mix. Something to think about.

Are you talking about the drop-ins that lower the bike or the stock length ones? Both are progressive rate and the lowered ones will be stiffer. We have installed a few sets of the drop-ins with good results, but our customers overwhelmingly choose the monotubes for their superior ride quality. Getting away from the old open bath style fork to a gas charged damper is the way to go IMO.

Do the mono tubes come in lowered lengths? Is the installation more difficult? Thx.

Yes, they make 2 kits. One is for stock height and the other is if you want to lower the bike 1 or 2 inches, your choice with different shims. The install is a bit more involved as you will want to pull the forks apart rather than just dropping the new springs in. That being said, the extra work is completely worth it and you can say goodbye to leaking fork seals as you will only be using about 5oz of oil in them with the monotubes. Also it will give you a chance to clean and inspect the entire fork assembly for wear and also swap to chrome or black lowers if you so choose.

Change the fork tubes is the best way to lower your bike. And keep ride quality.

Another vote for the Monotubes here. Just installed a set on my '00 Deuce, love the improvement in ride quality, not to mention the "Harley wobble" has gone away entirely, and the front end dive when braking is all but eliminated.

I used the standard height kit, with one shim per the directions.

EDIT// as far as price, Cycleplicity had the best at $156 w/free shipping. For the '00 FLST, looks like the 31-2504 is the kit for lowering, 31-2052 is the standard height kit.

Another vote for the Monotubes - the gas filled hydraulic damper/shock absorber makes a major difference.

Also, these do not require disassembly of the fork tubes.

I ordered the monotubes and installed them this afternoon - the dive on applying the front brake most certainly appears better - I feel it's a fair improvement all round, but haven't used it long enough to give an honest review.

Just be very sure of your parts selection before ordering from them, because I hear that returns are not as straightforward as we would like.

Shotguns in the rear, Monotubes in the front - a perfect combination.
It doesn't get any better than that.
