They're "backwards" because they're supposed to be mounted the opposite, L-R. Mounted correctly, they hit the crash bars (which the instructions warned about). They're these:

I have both the soft lowers on the engine guards and the fork lowers. The soft lowers are used in the fringe season or riding in rain and are removed in summer. The fork lowers are on all the time. Their addition helped cut down the buffeting a lot.

Best $100 I've spent for my '14 heritage thus far. I too was really worried about the look but since have grown on me and really kind of just blend in. My head felt like it was going to come off on the highway. Not anymore

My wife has a set of JES wind deflectors... "fangs", on her 2014 Fat Boy Lo. They work mighty fine at cutting down the buffeting and they look good.
BWT, these are installed "correctly", with the outside edges pointing forward.

FWIW, I have a set of the HD fangs, the same as the pic of Sparky's bike, that were on my '12 Heritage twice before removing them...no scratches, like new I'll sell 'em to ya' if interested.

I've been too lazy to post some parts in the classified section since trading in my Heritage.

Sorry for the highjack...

I put on the HD part number 57400153 lower wind deflectors. There were very few options out there for my heritage and I had to get something. I was getting beat to death. That was the only one now that I think about it. The soft ones wouldn't mount with the nastalgic engine guard I put on. I don't have enough posts to put up a pic. Sorry man. But I will tell you I faught and faught again with myself before pulling the trigger on them. And after I put them on... Faught and faught again about taking them off. But several people told me they look good so left them on and no longer have a complex about em.
