Default Changing primary cover

I got a new primary cover, James gasket, Harley manual. Glancing through the manual it doesnt seem to tell much about taking the cover off and replacing it. I am sure it is there but I like to get real life opinions.

The seems to be a wide preference of oil but it sounds that almost any 10/40 oil will do..

Do I need to put any gasket sealant on it or just straight gasket to metal will do.

Also I am getting my powercommander and high flow A/C from Fuel Moto today. Any thing I should know for the install and set up.

Needless to say I will be busy the next day or two while it is raining here. I can't wait to try it all out this weekend.

primary cover is easy deal, just: cover & gasket
Done deal.

You can run the synthetic in there or buy primary oil. I have just run synth in mine with no problems.

There is a pattern to tightening the primary bolts. Specific torque.

It appears you can run almost anything in the primary based on posts on this forum, and not have major issues.

While the same lubricant in all three holes is convenient and probably OK, each component has different needs/issues. My preference is to use the correct fluid for each component:

I use syn in the engine

I use primary oil in the primary (HD Formula1)

I use gear oil in the transmission

Just my preferences...

No RTV needed. Most any oil will do in the primary, it is used for cooling and suspension of clutch material more than lubrication.
As stated above, follow the manual for tightening procedure and you will quickly find this is a simple job.

I made the swap last week. No problems or leaks. Looks great. I just ordered a wrinkle black finish derby cover to go wei the wrinkle black primary cover.
