Default Removing Transmission Assembly

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if you can remove the entire transmission assembly from a '02 Softail without removing the entire engine first?

I was thinking you would have to remove the entire primary, starter, oil bag and swing arm but the service manual is telling me to remove the engine first...

Thanks in advance.....Rich

You don't have to remove the engine, but....yes, the primary, starter, swingarm bolt, oil lines all have to come off. Never noticed the service manual said to remove the engine, hell at that point it's only a few more bolts and a fuel line anyway.Take the weekend off and go slow.
