Default Fatboy shift linkage measurement

I've got a 99 fatboy that I purchased with a suicide clutch and tank shift. After riding it for awhile I feel like this setup isn't going to work for me. I was given all the stock parts to switch it back except I was told the shift linkage was shortened. To me it just looks like they adjusted the ends on the shift rod all the way in so no threads are visible.
My question is what is the length of an oem shift linkage for a 99 fatboy and what is the length from end to end with it fully/properly adjusted? Thanks

I think center of eyelet to center of eyelet is 10 1/2"

I'm not so sure that's right. I'm currently at 12" with no threads showing on the eyelets that screw into the linkage. The shifter linkage itself measures 9"

This setup measures 12-1/4" eye-to-eye:

Stock shifter rod (33719-79A), replaced front eyelet with heim-joint.

Thanks. That sounds a little more in line with what I need. Any ideas on adjusting once I put the old shifter back on. I know I'm going to have to extend it but just wondering how to know when it's adjusted properly and if there's a method for ensuring its adjusted properly.

I imagine a line from the pivot point of (front) shifter to the shaft where the transmission lever is mounted. Then aim for as close to perpendicular (right angle) for the upright front shift lever as practical. This gives the shifter the maximum mechanical advantage when shifting transmission.
