Default Heritage/Deluxe hardtail style hinged rear fender

Checking to see if anyone has modified their Heritage or Deluxe by modifying the bikes rear struts and or added a hardtail style hinged rear fender? I am wanting to make the softail frame appear to be a hardtail like a '50s FL.

The hinged FL fender can be mounted up to the softail struts with little work. It sounds like your thinking of mounting a fender to the swingarm to look like the ridged, are you ?

The hinged FL fender will go on the softail by drilling the holes to match up to your struts. There is a member here Pococj, that has the hinged FL fender on his softail, maybe he will chime in and give you the details on this swap.

8ntsane, you are correct. I am checking into what is involved in mounting the fender to the swing arm and either hiding or removing the fender struts. I saw photos onetime of someone with a white EVO Heritage that did this and also added a pogo seat. It looked great.

There is a example of one way to do it. Fine looking bike by the way. I assume that the fender is still mounted to the frame, and not swing arm mounted? If it is, did you need to renforce the fender on the inside some how ? To keep the back half stable from shaking around. If you have more pics on the rear fender mod, I would love to see them.

On the other hand, I would also think if a guy wanted the fender to look like the ridged frames of the past, and wanted to swing arm mount it. Those had braces that mount above the rear axle, and held the back half of the fender in 4 spots. That type of mounting appears to do the job, and shouldn't be too hard to fab up, if that's the look your after. If you were to go this route, the stock fender struts would not be even needed, and I would remove them, just my opinion. Pogo seat will add work to the project, but certainly doable. It would fit in with the look, but also lift the rider up higher too.

I just welded up the hinge. Had to cut fender struts couple inches shorter as well.

I was able to find a pic of the Heritage that was modified to look like a rigid at two stages during its transformation.

Anyone know if this is a forum members bike?
