Default 1996 flstn

Hey guys,
i just bought a 96 flstn. This is my first big twin. I love the bike but i have a few issues. I thought some one mite help me with. First it seems impossible to shift into neutral when its running. When i shut it off and reach down and pull it goes rite in . My other problem is its noisey . The motor makes all kinds of noise in the top end . Ive been told its normal but thats hard to believe also it has an ev27 cam and roller push rods , will this change the shift points they dont seem to match the manual .
Thank --ljs

I always thought my engine (twin cam, not evo) ran good until i rode with a windshield. It was then that I heard every noise that engine was making. Sounded like a bomb about to detonate. But the thing is, it's completely normal to make noise. Unless you hear something grinding, or seriously screeching, it's likely normal.

Since we can't hear it over the internet, i would say, look for a buddy with an Evo bike. Ride his. If it sounds the same, your all good. The EV27 is just about the best Evo cam ever. But it is bigger and does make a wee bit more valve train noise. Get yourself a manual, or find someone who knows clutch adjustment procedure. You can get an Evo clutch to work well, if you set it up right. Also, if it has oversized grips, grip covers, or lever covers, take them OFF. Quite often they take up that last little bit of lever action you need to fully disengage the clutch. Often just having full lever function is enough to fix the problem once the clutch is properly adjusted.

I have worked on many EVO's with the "impossible to shift into neutral when its running" complaint...90% of them all had the same problem...the primary chain was adjusted too tight...you must find the tight spot on the chain to do the adjustment...and you must adjust it to the middle of the factory specs. My Evo shifts into to neutral without the slightest problem every time.
