$700 For Tank Lettering
My Indy had a guy add a pinstripe to my wheels. I asked him to find out how much to have Harley Davidson painted on the tank in the vintage letters from 1930 or so. I was told the guy wants $700 because he has to make a stencil and such. Does that seem a little high? The Indy said I should just buy the decal and have them wet sand and then apply it like the MoCo does, adding the flat clearcoat afterwards. That is about $350. Problem is I can't get the colors I want that way. Guess I got to pony up the cash.

I don't think $700 sounds high at all. I do a bit of custom work myself (different trade) but same principal and there's a lot of time and skill involved in stuff like that. This sht doesn't just happen out of thin air or you'd be doing it yourself. If the job comes out right, no problem, comes out like crap, then no way.

My first question is, what do you think is a fair price?
What style Pinstriping does he do?
Have you seen his work other than the lines on the wheels?
To me, it sounds like you have something in your head that you want...If it were me I would shop around and look at the work the local stripers put out and see who has the skill set to give you the font/look you want...kind of like looking for a tattoo artist...if that makes sense...

One fact is that anything to do with motorcycles is more expensive than anything to do with cars. They are just expensive. It seems like I can't get anything done for my bike for less than a grand. It sucks but its the nature of the beast.
That being said, aren't there companies out there that make vintage tank decals and tank emblems?

Talk to Vanessa at Nub Grafix and get a quote. He does excellent work. He did my striping.
