Default What Battery do you use in your Softail?

So I am needing to replace the battery in our Heritage Softail and was wondering what battery do you guys use?

Should I get a battery at Wal Mart, or maybe the dealer?

Any brands better than others?

As far as I'm concerned, batteries last as long as they last whether it is a brand name or not. IMO, the major factor as far as longevity is concerned is battery maintenance. I make sure it is fully charged before installing it in the vehicle and I use a battery tender all the time. By the same token, there are others that never use a tender and their battery lasts a few days shy of forever???

Some use an HD battery and say they last a long time, some use it and it doesn't last a long time. The same is true for Big Crank, Yuasa, Walmart and auto part store batteries. I do not have any experience with Lithium batteries.

Here is my personal experience with batteries. The battery that came with my bike, a 2012 Heritage, lasted 2 years and 8 months. I replaced it with another HD battery and it lasted 13 months. Just two weeks ago, I purchased my 3rd battery from Batteries + Bulbs. It cost the same as a Harley battery, about $125. The Batteries + Bulb battery, which is a Duracell Ultra battery, has a two year warranty that is honored at any Batteries + Bulbs location nationwide. Most other batteries I have reviewed have, at most, a one year warranty. HD batteries have a 1 year warranty.

So... here is my recommendation. Go buy ANY battery with the same specs as the HD battery and use it. It will last as long as it lasts. The specs for a Heritage battery is 310cca and 17.5-19ah.

This is a link to the battery I just purchased https://www.batteriesplus.com/batter.../2012/cyl10019

Good luck in your quest for a new battery. You will get many varied opinions and experiences.

I have a Super Start from O'Reilly's. It is a DEKA made battery.

I've been getting about 4-5 years out of Drag Specialties batteries. Not sure who makes them but they seem to do the trick. I keep both bikes plugged in at all times in the garage too.

A battery made by Deka or Yuasa will probably be your best bet.

I have only used the HD battery. They have all lasted between 6-7 years with no issues.

Up here HD battery costs $210, Other batteries not too much cheaper, maybe $50 less.

My HD battery is 3.5 years old and is showing signs of weakening.

I think I'm going with the Duracell at Batteries + Bulbs that "Bone Doc" mentioned.
The 2 yr. warranty seems like a good deal plus there's generally at least one store in every medium size City.

Batterymart.com Big Crank for me, same US manufacturer as the HD batteries, at $100 with free delivery.

Johnson Controls sold by AutoZone is another US manufacturer, but I have read many negative reviews compared to the Big Crank / East Penn.

Yuasa YTX20HL-BS, ~$120 with a 1 year warranty and made in the USA! On average, with proper maintenance (trickle charger or alike) we see around 4+ years out of them...
