Default New-ish 2015 Deluxe CVO Do it or Don't

So I sold my Road King earlier this year because I'm wanting to get back to the soft tail side.

I have done 3 deluxes up, 21/18, Fishtails, Apes. Etc. Gonna do the same with this one also.

My 1st question is, I came across a 2015 CVO Deluxe for a killer price. $22K with 3K miles on it. It comes with the SE 110 and dripping in chrome. But when I told the sales guy what all I was gonna do to it, he kinda smirked and said "be sure you keep all the CVO stuff you take off cause resale will be better if I keep all the CVO stuff". I understand that to an extent, cause some guys want to keep CVO's stock. But thats just not my style. So, is that a pretty good price on a CVO?

Second question is, I also found a 2015 Stock Deluxe with 600 miles on it for $15K.

Now you have to take into mind that I'm gonna put chrome on it and spend more money on the stock one and also probably do engine upgrades. With the CVO, I would leave the engine alone.

So which in your guys minds is the better deal. The CVO deluxe for 22k or the stock Deluxe for 15K???

Go for the cheap one and change it to make it your own.

If you're gonna change it up a lot, go the $15K route. CVOs should be left alone, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, thats what everyone keeps telling me.

Also, aren't the CVO front fenders and stock deluxe fenders different?

I'm with Road Star, if you are gonna change it go with the Deluxe for 15K. My wife recently purchased a leftover 2014 CVO Deluxe with 15 miles for 22K but see will keep it stock. It has everything she needs and more, she loves the shiny.

I would go with the CVO, by the time you buy the cheaper one and upgrade the engine you are getting close to the CVO price, that and the CVO will hold its value better if/when the time come to sell it.

Mod the crap out of it and keep the stock parts, that way you still have the "CVO" and still have a bike that is uniquely yours.

I wouldn't be worried about modding the CVO. Resale already dropped about $4k at the end of he model year with only 3,000 miles. I'm not sure the residual resale for a CVO is that much better (as a percentage of MSRP.)

The real questions are related to the parts on the CVO, and the parts you plan to replace.
Will you keep the CVO wheels?
Will you keep all or most of the CVO chrome?
You said you'd do engine work on the stock Deluxe and leave the CVO motor alone. But would you buy pipes? Intake? Tuner?

These questions get to the real price difference.
For example, if you will replace the pipe, intake and add a tuner, you'd be spending $1000+. You could get a 103 to perform similar to the CVO motor, better depending on where you like your torque/power. A good set of aftermarket cam's, new clutch and some head work is much less than $7k.

If you will be replacing even half the chrome, and not using the CVO wheels, you'd just be storing money in your garage and hoping it has similar value later. In this case, the standard Deluxe is better.

If you plan to use all the CVO upgrades and it saves you $7k in replacement parts, the CVO is the answer.

Personally, I'd go with the CVO and mod the hell out of it. Folks say resale value is keeping it stock but I beg to differ, there as many folks looking for that modded CVO also.
EDIT: How long is your money is the key.

I would go the 15k route and have leftover $$$ for the mods. You may keep it for a long time now that you know the deluxe is the bike for you.

Both good deals. Really up to you the CVO does hold its value . If your going to mod the crap out of it the 7 plus grand you save on the stock deluxe will go a long way .Good Luck
