buying 2004 heritage-have questions
Should be twin cam 88.Has screaming eagle slipons, stage 1 kit.10,000 miles. I will have 2 years warranty. What year did they upgrade the camchain tensioners? I figure at 10,000 miles its not an issue. But what about 25,000,and up? My 04 ultra never made a sound.I had it checked, the tensioners were shot. How much more horsepower does the stage 1 add.Is it a different jetting and less restrictive pipes? Is it the twin a or twin cam b engine? Thanks for any information.

The 04 has the spring loaded tensioners which are the problematic tensioners. Mileage varies greatly on when they go so figure that in to what you pay for the bike.
Hp on the stage 1 over stock? Who knows. Softails are the "B' or balanced twin cam engine.
The only way to know about the tensioners is to pull the cam cover and visually inspect them. This all being staed I owned a 2002 softail and bought it with similar mileage. Swapped out tensioners at 40K miles and then went to the hydraulic setup at 60k miles. Sold the bike with 80k miles still running strong.

Like Hogpro says, just pop the cam cover off and take a look. It could be years before you have to worry about it. There are you tube videos about it.
Screamin' Eagle has a kit to convert to hydraulic tensioners. I weighed the pros and cons along with the cost and elected to stick with the stockers. I do about 5-6000 miles a year. I figure on checking them every 10,000 as a matter of routine maintenance.

In order to go to hydraulic you will need a different cam palte and stuff, a full kit. harley makes one which I used and there are other after market manufacturers that make them now as well. Feuling makes one, S&S makes one. I used the Harley kit as it was all that was available when i di this upgrade and came with most everything (except a few other hundred dollar parts )
Do a few searches here and i am sure you will find plenty more information.
