Might consider getting the raw version cause you can always paint/powder coat
it later if you change your mind.

good luck,

My 2 cents, how hung up are you on trying to look like a 1946 Knuck?

'46 is still very close to the war and the early model year bikes had basically no chrome. Still war time shortages. Some chrome started to appear later in the model year, but still very sparse compared to say a '47 or '48 Pan. So if you are trying to mimic a '46 specifically, chrome should be a no go. They were considered Plain Jane's due to the lack of chrome.

For my '46 Flathead I have spent a lot of time and some money getting rid of the blinged up chrome that someone put on it. Completely out of place.

Just information, as your bike is newer maybe you do not need to be hung up by year specific references. Just figured I would pass the info on since I have done a fair amount of research on that model year. Good luck, pretty bike.

Some pics for reference:

Some folks feel strongly about (against) sandcast.

I'd get chrome derby cover here.

I'd say Black. How much are those going for?

*Edit. I found the site. Cool stuff. I could some of that on my 02

Good thought, WKNDS! Sometimes I lack the grasp of the obvious. Sanity, that's one of the benefits of this forum. Cheaper that way too.

You're right Architect. I'm pointing to '46 because of the tank emblem. The fender light is '47 vintage and that's not coming off. Im also staying chrome with the taillight.

I'm not going pure, but I am reducing the chrome significantly, and may be changing it to polished over time. There will be black in many places, where today there is chrome. Think of it as more of a significant nod to the '46 with some shiny bits that a recently (honorably) discharged sailor with a rebel side might have put on it.

By the way...nice '46. I'm looking for one of those when I have the time to tinker with it.

Yeah. I like the cam and rocker cover too. If you're looking at EMD Stuff, J&P has much better pricing.

you would think that with how popular retroism has become, no one's manufacturing early harley exhausts.
What's the hold up?

To me that looks like a 1948 Pan and then a 1947 Knuckle. Both gorgeous bikes, I would have in my fleet.
