Default Softail Deluxe Windshield

It came in today. The bolts weren't much work at all. However; getting the windshield to sit in to position is a royal bitch. I'm having to put some serious back in to it. Even once I finally got it set in to position, something just doesn't look right. There are these little wire clamps of some sort, that don't really seem to clamp on to anything. And...when I turn the wheel all the way, they come very close to the tank IMHO.

Am I just retarded?

This applies a great deal of pressure on the bolt, but doesn't hook around it.

This looks more like the way it should go, but that hook won't go down and wrap around the bolt.

Loosen the acorn nuts that hold the side brackets to the windshield, which will relive some on the tension/pressure, then tighten them back up. This will make it a bit easier to put the windshields on.

Yeah, I looked on the HD website, and the zoom view shows the top one being correct. Still seems strange that it would be SO close to the tank.

Cool

Yup it's number one. Mine was tough to get on and off when I first got my bike. I loosened the bolts slightly and now it works as it should.

That makes sense. I think I over-tightened the nuts, so the little black grooves that the windshield slides in to are being compressed too much. Your comment makes great sense. Thanks.

Also put on the windshield and loosen the Allen nuts that hold the plexiglass to the hooked brackets to let them seat easier, then retighten. Been there, glad to help.

You will like the windshield. It makes riding at highway speed much more pleasurable. Once I put mine on it never came back off.

Your not nuts, its a royal pain at first. Mine is getting better. A little soapy water ln the rubber gromets will help. The loop on my left side was all but hitting the tank on mine. I bent the loop up about 1/8 inch and now its fine. However, it was real hard to bend because the loop is made of pretty thick round stck. Just bend a little at a time.

This made installing and removing my shield MUCH easier.
