Default Interconnection on Classic mufflers?

I want to return my 2006 Heritage Classic to its original condition. Can someone tell me if this model came from the factory with a staggered muffler with the interconnected tube? Right now, my bike has mufflers from a Deluxe, but I want original Heritage Classic mufflers that do not interfere with the bottom of the leather bag.

You should be able to pick up a set fairly cheap as this is usually the first thing to go. You might check your local dealer as mine keeps the old take offs (if the customer doesnt want them) and sells them for scrap.

Can I assume that the answer is yes, they only come with the interconnection? Or did they also come without the interconnection? I assume I would also need the support bracket to which both mufflers connect to, correct?

There is an interconnect, you can see it in this part diagram:

There is a mount for the frame as well. I don't have a Heritage, and it looks like part#16 "tube interconnect" is also the frame mount. Don't take my word, but look around the linked website and you might find the answer. Someone on this forum might chime in as well. You might find what you need on the softail classified section here.

Look at photo 4 in the ebay link form Mother.

There are 2 holes in the tube interconnect that look like the frame mount, So it appears the exhaust interconnect doubles as the muffler mount.

Yep, definitely looks to be a double duty piece. Mount and crossover pipe in one.

Smile Tube Assembly, Interconnect

Outstanding. You all have confirmed my suspicions. I will now start my quest to go back to original equipment. One last question: Does that tube assembly interconnecting the two mufflers, help to somehow equalize the gasses and thereby improve performance? I imagine exhaust gasses go in the forward hole and come out the rear hole (no pun intended)? Thx. By the way, I found the HD instructions for that piece, and it is part no. 65912-00A.

I think that's usually the idea behind a crossover pipe...equalizing pressure and smoothing out the exhaust pulses between the two cylinders to help performance. I don't know when I've ever seen one that was so long, but I don't know enough about exhaust design to say if that makes a difference or if the same principles apply regardless of length.

One last concern I have is regarding the contact point at the cross over piece between the muffler and the support tube. None of the ones I have seen have any clamps, so how are they connected in order to prevent exhaust leaks?
