Actually, I stopped by the dealer and checked out a gas cap on a 2016 Heritage. It turns from full stop back quite a ways as well before it starts unthreading or loosening the cap. I thought it was only 3/4 of a turn, however I think it might be a couple of turns. I will have recheck mine. The service manager advised that this is the way they are designed because of the venting of the gas cap. Sooooo, I am not loosing it, or at least not as much as I thought!

I started a thread on this in 2024 because of the same thing. I flipped the seal ring and ever since it has not given me a problem. Other than it bibrates and make a buzzing noise.

 

So had bad did you bet your head? Make a hold in the wall?

 

Nah, just a slight dent! I hate to repair, mud, and sand dry wall so I was careful not to damage the wall too bad...LOL!!!!!

 

I checked and from stop, my gas cap turns about 1 full turn before it starts to actually unscrew from the tank!
