Default Satin finish scratch repair

So... I decided I preferred my bike without the sissy bar.

But in taking it off, the inevitable happened and there are some small (but massively noticeable to me) scratches on the rear fender

It's the charcoal satin paint, so what's the best way for me to repair it?

I've never used touch up pens before, so not sure how they work - will using one and buffing it make the finish go shiny?

Any advice much appreciated!

Bear in mind I'm in the UK so any products you might recommend I may not be able to get hold of

IMO I would seriously assess how much this needs to be in fact re finished. The touch up pens or paints will always be noticeable, maybe more so than the current issue you have. If its down to the metal it may be needed to keep rust away. If its truly bad enough then a complete repaint is an option. But bear in mind unless the piece is expertly painted there could be finish/match problems with that.

Does Harley offer the parts pre-painted? if they do you could bite the bullet and replace if it bothers you that much, which I do understand if it did.

Leave it alone, those touch up pens and satin paint never match and the eyes will be drawn to it like a magnet every time you're around the bike. It will drive you crazy.

Yeah they're not deep or really that bad at all - a casual eye would miss them, so certainly not looking to respray/replace!

I was imagining some kind of 'near colour' filler would do it?

Before install a sissy bar in the rear fender, you must install a protector between the rear fender and sissy bar. If you watch, the sissy touch directly the rear fender....Dont ride the bike because scratch the fender, logic.

'Battle scars' hahaha

My Dad scratched up the bumper on his new car years ago and I told him the same thing

I suggest anytime you work on your bike to cover painted parts with a towel etc. You'd be surprised how far a socket/wrench/part can fly. I use 3M blue masking tape for installing/removing parts very close to painted areas. I know from experience, **** happens.

Yep, I kinda know that now.

I know it's my own darn fault, but I'm more interested in treatment, not prevention at this stage
