Default New to me 2008 FXSTB

I've been hanging out in the touring section for the past 10 years or so but recently acquired a night train. I'll share some pics and also share my experience with the so called "easy" lowering kit.

This is a before:

During the install of the lowering kit, I realized it would be easy if I had lift rather than a jack. Or, have three hands the size of 5 year old. Because I have neither of these, I removed the rear shock mount bolts so I could move the shocks back and install the collars. Of course the right side bolt is a PITA and to make matters worse, during the install, I cross threaded it. I had to remove the swing arm to able to rethread it.

The end result is this:

Nice. I have an 05. Love it. Would like to lower it, but am worried about stories like this. How's it ride post lowering bolts? Did you drop it about 1.5"? Are you going to lower the front too?

Nice looking night train. You lowered it just about the right amount. Going too low will make a harsh ride cause you either have to turn up the shocks so they are almost ridged or bottom out on bumps. I have mine down 1.5 inches but I hear 2 inches is not so bad.

looks sweet....my fatboy seems to be sitting pretty low, I got it used so I don't know what's been done to the suspension...I picked up a used set of progressive shocks for it at a good price, wonder if the lowering kit can be used with those?

I put an 18 inch wheel on the back instead of the stock 16, then I lowered it one inch.

But I have an 05.

Thanks. I didn't use bolts, just added collars and they would be easy to install if you use a lift, jack (for the rear tire) and have an extra set of hands. I didn't notice too much of a difference in the ride. I'm not lowering the front. The only reason I lowered the rear is because of the gap between the fender and tire, It just didn't look right to me.

This is what I used and would think they would work on the progressives...

i used the collars to lower mine 2", but i also turned up the pre-load on the shocks, it feels/rides no different.
