In the rear, 160 is as big as you are going to go without spending some money...if you want to bigger might as well go 200...you can do that for the same price as 180.

In the front, you are not going to get anything in there that makes a noticeable difference and keep the front fender...nobody makes a wide fender for an FX springer.

hey BA did you have to go to a skinny belt to fit that 160 or just put a spacer behind the pulley? I'm lookin for a new rear rim an will prob get a new tire too. right now I'm thinkin 140 or 150 on a stock fatboy mag....not in the mood to pull the primary.

yes Lang 1" belt. 2003 stock spoked wheel,03 pulley and used star nuts to mount fender.
Used the spacers from the stock 96 set-up. Bought the wheel, pulley off classifieds on here for 100.00. 50 to powder the spokes and a new Metzler. Pulling the belt took a couple hours and really is not difficult. Ends up with a 1/4" clearance between belt and tire with this set up.Everything is straight forward bolt on and rubs nowhere. Dunlop 160 tires are a 1/4" less in width from the Metzler I've found. G.

I think I'm going to go with a 150 to avoid changing the belt, going to try an get by with a pulley spacer...looks like I'll have to trim the belt guard...If I ever need to change the belt I'll go to a 1 inch belt an pulley for future upgrades. I'm trying not to go too crazy on this one.

Your choice to go to a wide 180 on your '96 but there is a certain cool factor to just keeping the 130-140 rear size on a 20 year-old bike. I went to a 3.00 front on my '97 and am happy with it. Wouldn't go any bigger. Good luck.

BTW, Heartland makes a 180-200 conversion but permanent mods required.
